Course Objectives

Online Courses in the Department of Communication

 

1.  To demonstrate critical thinking about mass communication media, enhance one's level of
      media literacy, and analyze their own personal and social relationship with the mass media.

3.  To begin to understand some of the potential careers and career paths in organizational
      communication, public relations, electronic media, advertising, journalism, and sports

The learner will be able to:

1. To identify the basic concepts and key elements of human communication and organizational communication.

2. To inform students about different mass media and to provide orientations toward the curriculum in the Department of Communication.

3. To recall the history, organization, operation, and ethics of mass communication media institutions and their functions and influence samong their audiences in a global context;

4. To identify careers in mass communication industries and the requirements for attaining such careers.

5. demonstrate awareness of the pervasiveness of the mass media in our society.

6. delineate ways that some media effects can be mollified or avoided with  appropriate forethought and analysis.

7. discuss cogently the effects of mass media on their own lives, their community, and their nation.

8. analyze and discuss prevailing media issues and their impact on us socially, politically, economically, and ethically.

9. enhance their level of media literacy by considering their own exposure to and perception of mass messages.

10. recognize the ethical and philosophical issues that arise in media culture and understand the range of viewpoints regarding each issue
