Assignment.

1,  Each group will complete TEN job descriptions each week

2.  Two job descriptions must be organizational communication, two for public relations, two for advertising, two for
      journalism, and two for electronic media and so forth.

3. These should be actually job descriptions which are currently being advertised in the private sector.  You will likely
     have to do additional research in order to find salary ranges for the particular position which you are searching.  You
     may also have to do a little more research identifying the specific skills required of this posiiton.

4.  Here is the information that must be contained in each of the 10 job descriptions.  You should "cut and paste" the
      table below and use it to construct each of your job descriptions, so that each description has a similar look and feel.

Strategy

1.  Go to the web sites of large companies e.g. Caterpillar, State Farm Insurance, Accenture and examine the job they are
    advertising in their own company.

2. Search the Top 10 Job Web Sites.  Sign up for email alerts, so that jobs of potential interested to communication major will
    be sent directly to your inbox.

3. http://www.bls.gov/oco/  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook is a useful resources for this
    particular type of assignment.

4. Information on salaries can be found in the Occupations Outlook Handbou, Salary.com, and I believe there is a source in the Wall Street Journal online.  There of course are likely to be other sources which you will need to dig for.

 

Potential Position Titles

You should not be limited by this list.  There are many positions, particular in digital and internet related carrers, which are not yet listed here.   This list was put together as a starting point.  It will be your task to not only research this positions, but also to add to it.
