Required Work

Fall 2002

Online Courses in the Department of Communication

 

1.  Each student will take two major objectives exams over the content of the textbook
    

 2.  Each student will complete a take-home-final examination.  The take-home-final    examination is analysis and critical reflection of the history and communication processes in your 2zero7 projectt eams.  For a full desciption of the take-home-exam click here. The final exam must be emailed to the instructor on or before the day of the final exam.

4) Project Overview

           a)) construct an 10 to 15 page double-spaced reserch paper/essay.

           c) deliver a oral presentation as a team of at least 45 mintues.

5.  Each student will complete four peer evaluations of their own and their other team
  members contribution to the team project through out the course of the semester.

6.  Each student will participate in activities designed to develop group cohesion e.g. the
    name, slogan, and logo contest, the Tower of Babel contest,  the 2zero7 cadence, and
     the  2zero7 march , the 2zero7 line dance, and so forth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the fall of 2003 there emerged a 2zero7 supergroup, "The Marrow Suckers."

7) Each week each group must post a status report to Blackboard furnishing the following information.

a) who is in your group,
b) what was accomplished that week in the group,
c) what you plan to do next,
d) what information/ help you need from other groups/individuals
e) other information you want to share.

8) In addition to posting the status report to Blackboard, you will also send a private e-mail (only to
    me)  that distributes 100 "quality" points to group-mates based on their level of participation in
    the  group for the week. At the end of the semester, the % of points received by each person

10.Each student will take a midterm and final examination.  The midterm  examination will be an objective exam over the required readings.  The final  examination which will be a "take home" essay examination which will be handed in during the regularly scheduled final exam period. (not operative this semester)

 

Each student will keep a journal during the course of the semester, analyzing the nature,
     function, and process of communication within their project team during the course
     of the semester.  Every time there is a group meeting the individual group member
     should try to record an entry in their group journal.  

    Each journal entry should:

    1) be numbered, you should have one entry for each time your team meets, meeting
        numbers should be identical for each journal handed in by members of your team.

    2)  contain at least one TBC's, (textbook connections)-references to the concepts, ideas,
     and assumptions about communication in small groups, contained in the textbook.

You will notice on the course calendar, that each weeks under "Journal Question of the Week" theres tructured questions which should be answered in the journal.  The journal will 
be handed in on the last day of class of on the day of final exam.  Your journal entries should be structured like the the five sample journal entries from the 2zero7 Class of 2000.

2.Each student will complete a semester group project. The semester group project will  which will be to construct a learning module on a concept or skill need to communicate effective in virtual teams.  The major parts of the project consist of a 10 page FULL content outline and a 45 minute oral presentation.

All Team Project Will Contain the Following Sections

Write a one page single spaced executive summary of your project.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives state in concrete terms what you want your learns to know or be able to do when unity of instruction is completed.   

SECTION 3
REQUIRED READING
Each team will identify selected readings which the learner will need to read in order to be able to demonstrate mastery of the objectives stated above.Do not just list general sources.  This is not a bibliography.  Identity specific readings and page numbers of the reading the learner needs to master in order to accomplish the module of this objective.

 SECTION 4
CONTENT AND SUBSTANCE
Each team will construct a full content outline (full metal jacket)

SECTION 5
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS
Each team will generate at least five higher order thinking questions which can be used to facilitate discussion during their public presentation, or which could be used to as a catalyst for asynchronous discussion.The questions must be higher order questions designed to foster critical thinking.  Here you want to foster application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. 

SECTION 6
PowerPoint
Each team will present a 45 minute oral presentation demonstrating mastery of PowerPoint.

 SECTION 7
ROAD TRIPS
Identity five Internet sites where the learner can deepen their understanding of this particular topic, see the concepts applied in various contexts, and so forth.
