Concept Analysis Assignments

 

Purpose

1) The purpose of the concept analysis assignments is to extend and amplify concepts and processes contained in the textbook and to furnish a collaborative resource for exam preparation.

2) Each person will complete THREE concept analysis papers/essays.

3) Specific Requirements

at least 1 page of text (500 words)

contain at least on 2 images (creatively borrowed from the "net") which complement the verbal message-these images can be charts, graphs, photos, cartoon, video clips, and so forth)

contain at least 3 hyperlinks which takes the reader to content which furnishes amplification  of the concept you are analyzing.

contain at least four (25 to 50) word quotations from authority (2 can come from the textbook)

contain at least 3 references cited in APA style in addition to the textbook

the document should be done in Word, and emailed to the instructor prior to the due date

all concept analysis papers will be put online in order to assist in exam preparation

4)   The second concept analysis essay will serve as the basis  for a 10 minute oral presentation.

TITLE SLIDE

1.  Give Your Presentation A Creative and Imaginative Title

INTRODUCTION

1.  Gain Attention (Use as last two of the following strategies to enhance attention)

2. Establish Relevance

        Explain why the audience should listen?  What's in it for them?

3. Thesis sentence

    Preview the question you will ask and answer in this presentation, and the the three
    answers to your question.

MAIN POINT-STRUCTURE

1. Each presentation will ask and answer one central question, this will help keep the
    presentations "lean and mean"

2.Each presentation will utilize slides which carry the structure of the presentation to
   to the audience.

            Each presentation will have at least four slides which carry the structure of the
            presentation to the audience.

                    One slide will include the central question which is being asked in the
                    presentation. This is usually a "what,", "why," of "how" question.

                   Each presentation will include at least three "build slides"

MAIN POINT DEVELOPMENT

1. All content and substance of the presentation must be integrated into the NOTES view of the
    PowerPoint graphic.  You must be able to give a stranger a paper copy of your presentation and
     it must be comprehenable to a naive audience.  Failure  to furnish context and
     content for each graphic will result in a 25 point penalty.

1.  Each presentation will contain at least three 15-20 word quotation from the textbook and
     independent research.

2. Each presentation will contain at least one "chunk" in which the speaker's personal
    perspective itve is integrated into the presentation.  This can be accomplished through
    self-disclosure, a personal story or narrative, personal examples, or using "I think,
    I feel, I remember."

PRESENTATION STYLE

1.  Each presentation will contain at least three images (not clip art).

2. Each presentation will use at three example of word art to emphasize key ideas
    or concepts in the presentation.

CONCLUSION

1. Each presentation will summarize the three major ideas contained in the presentation.

2.After summarizing each presentation will spotlight "If you can remember only one thing
   from this presentation it should be____________.

3.Each presentation will employ at least one of the following strategies to close the
   presentation, in order to enhance the chances of ending with "a bang rather than a
   whimper."
