Organizational communication is an area of study that examines the complex communicative behaviors which occur in organizational settings.  Graduates with a degree in organizational communication have an understanding of organizations at the macro and micro level. They have the ability to analyze organizations and make recommendations for improvements and have an understanding of communication and how to improve it.

The major provides a program of study  for those students aiming for professional careers and administrative positions in business, industry, education, public relations, advertising, journalism and other organizational units.   Graduates in organizational communication often secure public and private sector employment in such areas as personnel,  organizational development, staff development and training, public affairs, fund-raising, and communication and management consulting 

Students majoring in organizational communication are also well prepared for graduate school in interpersonal, organizational, and corporate communication, as well as business, rhetoric, and law.

In addition, those students in areas such as business, education, psychology, and political science often find the Organizational Communication concentration a good area of emphasis or a good second major to supplement the careers they have chosen in those fields.
